Imagine opening your eyes in the pre-dawn glow of a pristine African morning, sipping a coffee to shake off the last of your dreams. Around you, the first light is breaking, and the birds of the bush are starting to wake. Predators have spent the night hunting and may even be moving in for the kill. The bush is alive and thriving around you. It’s prime game viewing time, and the experience of a lifetime awaits.Whether you opt for a specialist game drive like our unique meerkat drives, or want the full traditional safari experience, the action starts early, and thrills await.
By the time you return, a delicious breakfast is waiting for you in the Buffelsdrift restaurant. Packed with local flavour and lovingly brought to life by our culinary team, you’ll have plenty to enjoy as you swap eager safari stories with each other.Outside, the first animals of the day come to drink from the waterhole, and hippos pop their heads up from time to time. Our three biggest team members- our precious elephants- will make their first appearance of the day.
Be sure to plan some time for our free-roaming cheetahs and a beautiful view overlooking our lions in their enclosure (lions experience). These are, of course, fully wild animals! Experience these iconic apex predators as nature intended and learn more about our conservation efforts that help ensure they’re still here for our children’s children.
Now’s the perfect time to craft a day you’ll enjoy. Take to the trails on our Heritage Nature Walk. Explore the exceptional beauty of the Klein Karoo, as her ancient bones call you home. This 5km trail is easy enough for the whole family, and a great way to slip in some exercise, too.
Head back to your luxury tented camp for a nap or book yourself a special pampering session at the Buffelsdrift Spa. Or head out on an Oudtshoorn adventure and explore the many attractions lying close to the reserve. From the Cango Caves to the delicacies of Karoo wine, there’s plenty to enjoy! Don’t forget to come home to Buffelsdrift in time for your evening game drive!
The bush at night is an experience like no other. Overhead, one of the clearest, most achingly beautiful star-filled skies you’ll ever see unfolds. The dark here is deep, free from city lights and atmospheric interference. Wild animals call in the bush, their cries eerie in the crisp night. It’s time to meet the shy nocturnal species who never see the light of day- think caracal, genet, porcupine, aardvark, and aardwolf.
